Insulation

There are many types of energy efficient insulations, here are some Shaw Building & Design, Inc. uses.

CORBOND FOAM
CORBOND® is an insulating, spray-in-place polyurethane foam.

Insulation

CORBOND® provides the ultimate in insulation performance:

  1. extremely high R-value
  2. air infiltration and intrusion control.
  3. moisture control in building cavities
  4. air convection control

CORBOND® insulation has the highest performance R-Factor achievable for an insulation product on today's market. The innovative product isolates the indoor and outdoor climates, stopping air movement and controlling moisture condensation and movement within walls and roof cavities helping to eliminate mold growth. Unparalleled in its proprietary formulation, it outperforms any glass fiber blanket in severe conditions, R for R in all categories of heat loss (or gain). The end result is that you build an energy efficient structure for your clients, providing them with a cost effective and simple solution to runaway heating and cooling expenses.

There are other advantages for you, the architect, builder, developer and building owner.. Because CORBOND® is a self-hardening spray-on insulation, it has unique characteristics in that it cannot shrink or settle and is integrally attached into the cavity. You can also have full design and construction flexibility because a 2x4 wall will provide super efficient insulation performance, which means that you are not constrained by excessive wall or roof thickness requirements. And Corbonded cathedral ceilings/roofs require no venting.

This high performance insulation and climate isolator also enables you to build stronger structures. Because of its ability to fully adhere to the structure, forming a solid bun between studs, the building becomes extremely stiff and strong. The concept is much like completely gluing every piece of the house or building frame together. Along with the natural sealing characteristics of CORBOND® comes an added benefit of noise reduction. It helps to block exterior sounds such as automobiles, wind, airplanes and any other outside disturbances, giving you a remarkably quiet building.

NU-WOOL Engineered Cellulose Insulation
Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is an energy-saving insulation product made from recycled newspapers. Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation, with its superior thermal and air infiltration properties, is installed in both attics and walls of residential and commercial buildings.
Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation is installed in attics and floors of new and existing buildings to help curb rising energy costs and create more quiet and comfortable environments. Nu-Wool Premium Cellulose Insulation carries the UL and Energy Star labels.

Blown-In-Blanket System with OPTIMA
Insulation The OPTIMA® system of fiber glass blow-in insulation is designed for installation in sidewalls, cathedral ceilings, floored attics and other closed cavity applications. It is pneumatically installed behind non-woven OPTIMA fabric (or equivalent). OPTIMA gives homes a custom-designed, seamless, thermally efficient sound-reducing blanket that completely fills any void.
This product is approved for use in the CertainTeed Blow-In-Blanket® System (BIBS®). OPTIMA fiber glass blowing insulation is used in residential and commercial construction as a thermal and acoustical insulation.

MemBrain SMART Vapor Retarder
Insulation CertainTeed MemBrain™ SMART Vapor Retarder is a vapor retarder sheeting that changes its permeability with the humidity condition – the product adjusts to seasonal climatic changes.
This product is used in closed-cell applications and addresses concerns about excess moisture in homes.

DuPont Tyvek
DuPont™ Tyvek®—the protective material with more than 30 years of performance in millions of homes.

Insulation

Wrapping a home or building in a weather-resistant barrier is not just good sense, it’s good building practice. Because it helps combat water, moisture and air infiltration that are any structure’s worst enemies. Allowed to penetrate behind siding, wind-driven rain and moisture can saturate walls, creating a breeding ground for mold, mildew and wood rot. The properties of DuPont™ Tyvek® do not support the growth of mold or mildew. Air infiltrating from outside can create comfort-robbing cold or warm spots while increasing heating and cooling costs.

DuPont™ Tyvek® acts like a windbreaker and wrapped over the sheathing and under the exterior siding—cut out around windows and doors and taped securely at the seams—resists air infiltration and water intrusion and makes for a more comfortable, energy-efficient home or building.
